IDS
Ids was born on 8 July 1975 in Bangkok.
Ids is a Thai artist who went to art school at Rangsit University in Bangkok. He began his career working on large murals 25 years ago and in this period began to develop the basis for the language which is the underpinning for his canvases today.
He now works out of a studio in Phuket Town where he creates what he calls “his own world of magic and mystery.” He tells an ongoing story that is played out over canvases that are interconnected narratively and also pay homage to the art world and other influences that play a part in his life. Often times the canvases are created as multiple aspects of one scene and he references different animals in nature combined to become their own modern day mythical creatures.
Ids works using a combination of materials painting with a series of brushes that are often tiny, so as to be to able to create the complex line work one sees in his canvases. The paintings are typically painted using acrylics but also involve the use of spray paint controlled with fine nozzles, oil stick and markers.
He is represented by Conceptio out of Hong Kong and has worked with them over the past eight years. It is during this period that he began to make the larger more complex canvases that you are looking at now.
His paintings are in collections in the US, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, London, France, Holland, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand. The large paintings typically take several months to make and are extremely sought after. The Boston Globe, several years ago, featured a 5 meter wide canvas that was collected by the Kane brothers and hung in their night club Big Night Live.
Ids' collectors include patrons and members of the board of several museums — The National Vic in Melbourne, the Art Gallery of Auckland, the ICA in Boston, the Tate in London and the Stedelijk in Amsterdam among them.
