“Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.” – Wassily Kandinsky.
Colour is one of those things that everyone has a personal take on. It’s one of the first things we notice as children and one of the first opinions we start to form: My favourite colour is…
What is your favourite colour?
This question drives our aesthetic decisions everyday. Whether it’s conscious or not, we are led by our personal colour preferences.
Naturally, colour can have a lot to do with a person’s like or dislike of a work of art. In many areas of the art buying world, decisions can be made largely based on colour. In design, a harmonious balance of colour is vital to a finished space. Art plays a part in this harmony and often, the colour of an art work is more relevant than we might think.
Colour has an energetic power. It vibrates around us. It is the difference between a calming space and an energising one, a serious space and a playful one. When an art work is well chosen, it enhances the purpose of a space through aesthetic compatibility but also through the energy it gives off, influencing how we feel.
Colour is joyful and sombre, a vital element in our understanding of what we are looking at. A sea scape painted with a red sea and green sky for example, wouldn’t mean ‘sea scape’ to most of us. It offers logic to objects and emotions and attracts us all as individuals differently.
Sensitive and encouraging of this, Red T has made sure to include diverse colour options within our collection. For example: Lovers of blue can conduct a quick search under ‘blue’ and will immediately see the many different shades we have across the collection. From here the endless possibilities start to unravel for works that can be made in different tones and depths in the wonderful colour blue. From there, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
